Egg White v/s Egg Yolk

The egg is considered to be one of the healthiest foods. The nutritional value of an egg is said to be very high as it helps in providing us with protein, minerals, vitamins, and many other nutrients as well. But the question is not about the egg today. Here, we are going to talk about the egg white and egg yolk. We all know that the whole egg has many nutrients and is very beneficial as we just mentioned what all nutrients, we get from it. And they are even low in calories, in comparison to the other food items which we eat. That is why it is even said that if you want to stay healthy start adding eggs in your diet. But what should you add egg white or egg yolk? We all are hearing this for a long time, that people should consider eating only egg white and should avoid the egg yolk which is the yellow portion of the egg. But have you ever tried knowing why people say so? And is it even true or not? Today, we will know the difference in between the egg white and the egg yolk, and then we can decide which one we should eat, or we should stick to the whole egg only.

Calories – When it comes to the calories, we have always heard that eggs are low in calories, and that is true also. If you are not adding any butter or you are not frying the egg, and only consuming boiled eggs, then they are low in calories. But which portion of the egg contains more calories, egg white or egg yolk? There is a big difference in terms of calories in between the two, as egg white contains fewer calories in comparison to the egg yolk. Like just take a large size egg which usually has 72 calories. So, the egg white contains only 17 calories whereas the egg yolk has 55 calories. That is why it is suggested to people who are trying to lose weight to skip egg yolk and only eat egg white.

Fats – Egg contains a good amount of fat; you can also say that most of the egg calories are because of the fat only. When comparing the fat in egg white and egg yolk, then egg yolk has more fat in comparison to the egg white and that is why they have more calories also. But you should also know that egg yolk contains healthy fats also. As it has Omega 3 fatty acids present in it which are very much beneficial for our body. Omega 3 fatty acids are not made by our body and that is why we need to consume food items that can help in providing the Omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are good for different types of diseases also.

Protein – Whether you are trying to lose weight or trying to gain weight, protein is required everywhere. And eggs are said to be a great source of protein. In comparison between the egg white and egg yolk, the egg whites have more amount of protein present in them. In total, if a large egg contains 6.28g of protein, then the egg white contains 3.6g of protein out of it, which is a good amount of protein. So, if you are planning to increase your protein intake, try eating more of egg whites.

Carbohydrates – If we talk about the carbs, then you should know that a whole egg contains a very low amount of carbs. When comparing egg white and egg yolk, then you should know that the carbs in an egg are said to be found in the egg yolk only.

Vitamins and minerals – When it come to vitamins and minerals than egg yolk is the winner here. As egg yolk contains more vitamins and minerals in comparison to the egg whites. Egg yolk contains different vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin K also. It also has different minerals present in it like iron, calcium, selenium, and magnesium. Whereas the egg whites only are having a few minerals present in it like potassium and a small amount of calcium. So, egg yolk is said to be rich in vitamins and minerals.

Cholesterol – This is a very important factor and you all should know that egg yolk contains more cholesterol than egg white. And more cholesterol can lead to different types of diseases that is why it is recommended that one should eat a limited amount of egg yolk.

You all would have read the difference in between the egg white and the egg yolks. You can now tell decide by yourself that what you need more and based on that you can choose whether you want to have more of egg whites or more of egg yolk. Or you can simply just stick to the whole egg.
